PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS JOIN EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

 

Santo Domingo. In a joint effort between the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP), INICIA and the United Nations Program for the Development (UNDP), the first forum on Business Sustainability for Sustainable Development was held, which promotes the coordination of the agenda of the public and private sectors, for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“This forum is an effort together with the MEPyD, the UNDP, the CONEP, the AIRD and the entire private sector, with a view to initiating a dynamic of collaboration that integrates us on the path of sustainable development, marking the path that begins with the business sustainability to sustainable development, at INICIA we have always believed that the development of a country is achieved when the public and private sectors join their strategic forces for this common goal” said Felipe Vicini, president of INICIA.

“We see how the businessman not only works for dividends from his companies, but also leans towards aligning his business with the SDGs. These provide a framework for its growth, with a balance between economic, social and environmental return”, highlighted Pedro Brache, president of CONEP.

“The 2030 Agenda and the SDGs constitute a comprehensive and complex global framework, creating a vision of how the world could be in 2030. Companies have the unique opportunity to adopt this agenda and recognize it as a driver of business strategies, innovation and investment decisions” said Lorenzo Jiménez de Luis, resident representative of the UNDP.

At the meeting, he had a keynote speech by the director of the Istanbul International Center for the Private Sector in Development of the UNDP, Marcos Neto, who spoke about the role of the private sector in the SDGs. “Economic growth, environmental protection and social development must be achieved hand in hand. Most companies are aware of the SDGs and plan ways to address them, but do not yet know how to go about it. Innovation, creativity, technological expertise and investment from the private sector is essential to achieve these objectives”, Neto pointed out

Also presented by Rafael Vélez, president of Putney Capital Management, affiliate manager INICIA on its Energy and Industry Platform, was the case study of EGE HAINA, a successful public-private partnership, not only in its economic performance, but also in its environmental impact. and social, both quantified and aligned to the SDGs.

“I especially appreciate the organization of this event where the national private sector represented by CONEP, AIRD and INICIA have joined forces with UNDP and MEPyD in its capacity as coordinator of the High-Level Inter-institutional Commission for Sustainable Development. , for the realization of this “Business Sustainability Forum for Sustainable Development”, said Minister Isidoro Santana in his closing remarks
