Santo Domingo. R.D. Santo Domingo. R.D. The Brugal Foundation announced the names of the winning institutions in the six categories of the Brugal Cree en su Gente Awards. The award, which reaches its twenty-seventh edition, is the greatest recognition of solidarity in the Dominican Republic.

The winners in 2018 were the Renovation Cultural Society of Puerto Plata (Art and Culture), the La Merced Foundation of Santo Domingo (Social Assistance), the Dominican Republic Peregrine Fund (Defense and Protection of the Environment), Radio Seibo (Community Development) , Alexia de Puerto Plata Foundation (Education) and the Operación Sonrisa Foundation (Health).

Virginia Cabral Arzeno, president of the Brugal Foundation, congratulated the winners for the great work they do in favor of the most vulnerable and highlighted the importance of recognizing and supporting them, to contribute to the consolidation of a culture of solidarity among Dominicans.

“In these 27 years, through the Brugal Cree en su Gente Awards, the Brugal Foundation has managed to support solidarity initiatives throughout the Dominican geography. Our goal is to help those Dominicans who are committed to their loved ones to make their dreams come true,” said Virginia Cabral Arzeno.

In 2018, more than 130 proposals for participation were received in the different categories. The jury chose three finalists per category, which they evaluated and visited over a period of three months.

Now there are 145 award-winning projects, of which 77 correspond to areas in the interior of the country, covering the entire national territory.

“In 2018 the Casa Brugal legacy of success turns 130 years old. It fills us with pride that the solidarity and commitment to the development of the Dominican Republic and the well-being of its people is an essential point within that legacy that we all celebrate today,” said Virginia Cabral Arzeno.

In each of the categories, a Prize consisting of one million pesos is awarded, so that the winners can invest them for the common good of all Dominicans. On October 11, in a tribute that the Brugal Foundation will pay to the winners, it will be announced who among them deserved the George Arzeno Brugal Grand Prize.

Since its origins, in 1991, the Brugal Cree en su Gente Awards have had the voluntary and passionate collaboration of great Dominicans. In 2018, the Awards Jury was made up of Virginia Cabral Arzeno, Franklin Báez Henríquez, Freddy Ginebra, Marianne de Tolentino, Bernardo Vega, José del Castillo, Arelis Rodríguez, Néstor Sánchez, Manuel Andrés Brugal, Miguel Escala and Peter Croes.
