[Santo Domingo, January 23, 2019] Ren Zhengfei, founder and CEO of Huawei, stated that following an approach of collaboration and shared success, the company will focus on the future of the industry structure, so in the coming years five years will invest more than 100 billion dollars in innovation and development.

Speaking to international media invited to the new Xiliubeipo campus located in Dongguan, in the southern part of China, Ren emphasized that Huawei definitely does not represent security risks, cyber espionage or that Chinese authorities use Huawei technology to spy on customers.

“We will never harm any nation, or any individual. Neither Huawei, nor I personally, have received requests from any government to provide incorrect information,” Ren said.

Actually, the company maintains an average investment of between 15 and 20 billion dollars per year in R&D, which places it among the 5 companies globally with the highest investment for this item. In terms of 5G, it has signed around 30 commercial contracts and shipped 25,000 5G base stations and has 2,570 5G patents.

“In the future, people will make a comparison between the countries that chose Huawei and the countries that chose not. As long as we develop very attractive products, there will be customers who buy them”, added the creator of Huawei.

Ren shared that Huawei is the only company in the world capable of integrating 5G base stations with the most advanced microwave technology, so they do not need fiber connections, and that they work better in sparsely populated rural areas and represent a more compelling solution in economic terms.

COLLABORATION AND SHARED SUCCESS

Huawei is based on four core values ​​that globally govern the work culture and approach to each market in which it operates: customer centricity, inspiring dedication, perseverance, and collaboration for shared success. It is in the latter that the company will focus to ensure that users, customers and associates reach new sites in each of the markets.

“In our world of technology, it is becoming increasingly clear that it is impossible for one company or even one country to do it all. In an information society, interdependence is very significant. And it is these interdependencies that make human society progress even faster,” Ren said. “The information society that we are going to see will be massive. And any single market opportunity cannot be sustained or supported by any single company. Instead, it requires the concerted efforts of thousands or even tens of thousands of companies working together.”

Over the past 30 years, Huawei products have been used in more than 170 countries and regions, serving more than 3 billion total users with open technologies and international standards in the areas of information technology and telecommunications.

Regarding the case of his daughter Meng Wanzhou, Ren replied that, being in the middle of a legal process, he preferred not to comment on the subject, but acknowledged missing her and thanked the people involved and the consular protection that the Chinese government has provided him as Chinese citizen.

He also pointed out that he did not find any connection between the cases of Canadian citizens detained in China and that of Meng Wanzhou, alluding that it will be necessary to wait for the conclusion of each of the legal procedures.

On a more personal note, Ren acknowledged feeling indebted to his children, since his professional obligations led him to stay away from the family for long periods of time.

“I once spoke to all of them, asking them if they would prefer us to spend more time together as a family. The alternative I gave them was that I would bet on a platform on which they could grow and focus on their professional development”, shared the creator of Huawei.
