Dominican Republic.- A group of 170 deserving students from nine educational centers were recognized and awarded during the Estrellas del Saber event organized by Gildan. The students attend educational centers in Guerra, Bayaguana, Boca Chica and San Pedro de Macorís, which are sponsored by the company within its education support program, Educando.
For the tenth consecutive year, students with academic excellence and good behavior received recognition certificates and purchase vouchers as an incentive for their great performance in the past school day. In the same way, nine teachers and a director were also honored for their meritorious work
Additionally, through the Educando program, the recognized students and their classmates were given more than 2,300 school supply kits containing backpacks, notebooks, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, rulers, cases, among others.
This initiative that Gildan develops annually provides basic tools and incentives to students to enable them to successfully start and finish their school year. “Through Educando we also motivate parents to become part of their children’s educational process, but above all to be part of a clean and planet-friendly school environment under the environmental education program that we sponsor called Eco- Schools”,highlighted Juan José Pérez Bell, Communications and Social Responsibility Manager of the company for the Caribbean Region.
During the celebration, the children participated in cultural and entertainment activities, in which they were able to show their talents for singing, acting, dancing and other artistic manifestations.
The students were recognized at three Estrellas del Saber events held in Guerra, Boca Chica and San Pedro de Macorís, where Gildan has its facilities, which were attended by community leaders, students, principals and teachers from the participating sponsored schools: Arcadia Reyes, Cleotilde Castillo, Apolinar Concepción, Tomás Hernández Franco, Basilio Frías and Eugenio de Jesús Marcano Founder Polytechnic, located in the municipality of Guerra; as well as the Manuel E. Santos School in Bayaguana, the Batey Esperanza School in San Pedro de Macorís; and the Vitalina Mordán School, in Boca Chica.
