AMERICAN AIRLINES APPOINTS A DOMINICAN AS NEW FAA CERTIFIED GLOBAL MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR

She is the first Hispanic to occupy such an important position in the airline

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic- American Airlines today announced that it has appointed Evita “Evie” Garces, as the new Director of Maintenance certified by the FAA, making history in the airline as she is the first woman and the first Hispanic to occupy this position.

Evie Garces, the daughter of Dominican parents and a resident of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, is now responsible for ensuring that all work done on the airline’s aircraft is done in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). ), to stay up-to-date and with access to the FARs, and to serve as the primary point of contact between American and the FAA.

Additionally, Evie and her team will also oversee American’s day-to-day technical operations, including aircraft maintenance oversight, outsourced operations in over 150 cities, responsibility for the aircraft maintenance deferral process, and aircraft handling. Out of service.

The information was shared in a press release in which it is highlighted that there are five key positions for any airline to operate as required by the Code of Federal Regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): Chief Pilot , Director of Operations, Director of Security, Chief Inspector and Director of Maintenance.

With extensive aircraft maintenance experience, Evie has made her mark in a typically male-dominated industry. She began her career in the aircraft maintenance industry by receiving her Airframe and Engine (A&P) license to later become an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. She has continued her career path with the company, holding various positions including Aircraft Maintenance Manager and General Director of Line Maintenance. Prior to her current role, she served as General Manager of Maintenance Planning – Base and Strategic. In this position, Evie led Maintenance Operations efforts at the bases, including the launch of several successful initiatives including domestic satellite Wi-Fi retrofits and Boeing 737 cabin upgrades.

With the support of her parents, originally from the Dominican Republic, Evie developed her love of aircraft from an early age. She was fascinated with aviation and began her career in the industry as early as high school when she attended Aviation High School in New York City. She continued to expand her knowledge at the College of Aeronautics in Flushing, New York, and later received her MBA from Northwestern University.

Today, Evie is responsible for developing and driving American’s maintenance strategy, helping to continue to improve the airline’s operations.
